I wonder if the pandemic actually smothered a duo explosion at the same time as it bolstered solos, due to the widespread adoption of video call gaming. Obviates a lot of the desire for, say, a couple to sit down and play a duet because they lack a group.

Very measured, that's fair. And I agree cautiously on duos. Ive been hearing this for basically the past 8+ years but haven't seen an explosion yet
