Highly recommend everyone watch 1982’s La Notte di San Lorenzo (The Night of the Shooting Stars) on @talkingpicturestv.bsky.social tonight at 9:55PM. Directed by the great Taviani Brothers it’s a real gem of modern Italian cinema.

One of my favourite westerns is on @talkingpicturestv.bsky.social today; 2:45PM, Paul Newman is ‘the man’ in Hombre (1967). Directed by the great, and much underrated Martin Ritt; cinematography by James Wong Howe.

Always felt that 1971’s The Eagle Has Landed is pretty poor; watching it again on #BBCTwo and it still feels like a mess.

I’m not always a fan of remakes but I’d be interested in what they could do with it now; plus Robert Harris’ sequel. Watch it here if you must: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b...

Had the new @simon-scarrow.bsky.social (Tyrant of Rome) for Christmas but I’ve still got plenty of reading to do of the Eagle series before reading that one; and to accompany it, a ‘Chalky’s Bite’ Belgium beer from Sharps brewery and Rick Stein.

I always try and lineup a certain selection of films set around a theme/subject/franchise to watch over the Christmas hols.

This year, I’m going back to RKO’s The Falcon series starring George Sanders, Tom Conway, John Calvert from 1941-1949. 16 titles in all me thinks.

Clive James passed away on this day in 2019. I highly recommend watching the fantastic (and very funny) Clive James… Postcard from Rome from 1990: www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/epis...

Dare I say it. But there is something rather interesting (and fun) in Netflix’s Death By Lightning series.
