There's a really good section on dice rituals in Shared Fantasy: Role Playing Games as Social Worlds (Gary Alan Fine, 1983).

Oh good lord, the tables editor was always the worst part of PageMaker, InDesign's was bearable, but I'm shifting to Affinity and have heard things, and this is going to be a godsend.

Depends on the complexity of the game, but hello.

Mayfair did a Batman RPG (cut-down DC Heroes system) back in the day.

The Extraordinary Adventures of Baron Munchausen, of course.

Can you drop me a very quick DM?
January 27, 2026 at 10:34 PM
Ah, I had no idea about translations. What year was that? Did you buy it in a regular bookstore or a games shop? (And do you know what year the Danish edition was published?)

I treasure mine. It is glorious.
January 27, 2026 at 8:37 PM
Specifically the FF RPG, or just the gamebooks? I need the former.
January 27, 2026 at 5:31 PM
Brilliant fun but not what I need, alas.
January 27, 2026 at 4:12 PM
Was that the Corgi edition?
January 27, 2026 at 1:39 PM
Ah, I'm specifically looking for people whose first encounter with RPGs was the Fighting Fantasy RPG by Steve Jackson, or any of the other paperback RPGs released about the same time.
January 27, 2026 at 1:36 PM
I do remember, but sadly I'm only after the people who came in via the RPGs.
January 27, 2026 at 1:10 PM
Was that the FF RPG? And it was Honigmann, Parker and Butterfield (I'm still in occasional contact with David Honigmann). Haven't seen the other two since school.

I was about to message you to check. See you next week!
