Well, I had the dip switches set incorrectly and it was trying to test memory that didn't exist. Fixed that and the floppy drives seem to work as well...

I'm also impressed that the Dell System 200 DOS 3.3 Master disk (circa 1987) is still working.

I hate trying to work with OS/2. I'm told this worked on IBM systems, but it's a pain in the ass on anything else. Right now, it can see the drive, crate partitions, but not volumes. And it needs volumes to install.

Who's ready to clean some floppy drive heads? Not really the way I planned to spend my day off but things are reaching dire straights for available floppy drives. Starting to hold up other projects.

It's alive!

The IBM 5150 (AKA IBM PC) just needed two caps on the 12V line replaced. The monitor had some plastic rattling around in the case. Both of those were pretty easy to solve.

Christmas tree acquired. Unfortunately, we can't move it into place because there is Lego building going on. When we reach a stopping point, we'll fold the table and put it in the corner.

Planning for Christmas Lego has begun. Sets have been divided between my son and I. The one set by itself is new and we will alternate bags.

GM and EVgo have teamed up to give me free charging credit that expires in (checks notes) a month and a half?!?

Well, I guess that's not getting used. I really only fast charge on trips...

Sometimes hacking a computer means a whole different thing...

In this use, I'm actually hacking (with a hacksaw) the case apart to add an I/O shield (custom made) so I can fit an older motherboard that was not designed for this case.

four 3d printer I/O shields each with slightly better layout and options. the top is the earliest and has holes that are too small (the DB9 and DB25 are comically small). the next has the right sized DB9 and DB25 cutouts, but there is still a problem with the clearance on the PS/2 ports. the third one would have worked, but I wanted to shift the PS/2 ports half a millimeter and add labels for the three DB ports. the back of a gateway 2000 G3 case with a large rectangle jacked out where the IO shield should go. the back of a Gateway 2000 G3 case with the completed I/O shield and motherboard installed. everything lines up and fits. my assorted implements of destruction used to create the hole for the I/O shield. sitting on top of an old table cloth covered in small pieces of metal are: a round file, a triangle file, a pair of snips, a hacksaw, and a pair of needle nose pliers.

My first attempt at desoldering a BGA chip and it worked really well. Chip cleaned up nicely as well.

Disclaimer: I don't plan on using this chip or board again. So, I don't need it to work at the end.
