Last week’s Substack blew up - thank you for reading and sharing.

Tried to write something more optimistic this week - looking at the things my students have taught me, and how teaching has made me a better person.

Thanks for the feedback and for reading. This week I looked at why Ireland seemingly hates its teachers, and what that means for schools and students.

Really & truly blown away by the shortsightedness here. Queries whether or not AI mocks ‘intuitive learning’ and proceeds to outline how a 16yo clicks a few buttons and gets a higher merit in history (says a lot about our JC 😬)

Why aren’t teachers given these spaces?

Thanks to those who engaged with last week’s Substack. This is a piece about how AI is impacting my classroom and some fears about how we might approach it in Ireland. Feels topical.

Aiming to stick with it this time, but I’ve opened up a Substack with some thoughts on leaving Abu Dhabi and what it’s taught me about education and school systems, and how I’m feeling about coming home.

Check it out if you find that stuff interesting

Shameless attack on Ukraine in the Oval Office, former US presidents must be turning in their graves with the backing of Putin and Russia. History turns to farce, but at least it’s ’great television’. Sigh.

I fondly remember studying ‘how many miles to Babylon’ for my leaving cert, it has stuck with me since. May she rest easy

If you are at an event where someone on stage gives a Hitler salute and that person is not dragged off by security and kicked out, you are at a Nazi rally.
