Accidentally bought some single-use microSD cards!

I've usually been pretty good at not falling foul of the "buy cheap, buy twice" mantra, but not this time.

When the first card failed, I thought it was just bad luck, but when the second hard-failed as well, after only a few minutes of use...😢

It's also a source of constant amazement/dismay, that when certain people see an own goal looming on the horizon, their first thought isn't to desperately slow down and think about their next move, but to exclaim "ooh, a chance to score a goal, yay!" and aim straight for the back of the net...

Him posting a video like this - in and of itself, with no additional context - is an automatic red flag.

So, from the perspective of someone who's still trying to work out what's going on, and amenable to giving benefit of doubt where due - a video like this starts haemorrhaging their credibility.

So, from what I can tell, there's someone called Moses Norton, who authored a book about SNES gaming - published by Bitmap Books - and he made silly insults in 2022 that resurfaced. In isolation, they read to me as Top-Gear-esque "humour", but others have seen them as part of a problematic pattern.

"Wait, who is this character, and what's the premise?"

"I feel like I'm missing something major that must have happened in, like, Season 3..."

I was just going to let it pass me by completely, but then Special Effect got mentioned (as the charity chosen to donate royalties to after the furore caused by a book author), so now I'm invested in doing the hours of research that it'll take me to catch up with what on earth is going on here...

Please keep in mind, when you're making commentary on events, that what might seem like huge news with plenty of obvious context to you, could be a complete unknown to others.

There's also an app called Telescore that people are talking about a lot at the moment: football scores in the style of teletext (but more matching a phone screen's real estate and aspect ratio).

They won't all necessarily be on the same tripod at #ChunkyFringe, but my OBSBOT Tiny 4K impressed me so much at #Teletext50 last year, that I decided I wanted two for the next event...and then I went a bit overboard...

I'm getting XLR to jack socket adapters FedExed to me, by Friday in theory, in time for Saturday.

If they don't get here, it's not a disaster, I'll battle on: they *do* work on the line input, just really quietly.

My setup will work perfectly by the time we get to Block Party 2026! 🤣

Just learned why my new mics were so quiet last year at #Teletext50...

The loudest background noise was still air con, but I also had hiss from cranking the channel gain and volume up full.

Turns out - despite the 1/4" jack - they're mic level, not line level.

Even says it clearly in the manual 🤣

Successfully prevented myself from sidetracking myself, and completed audio capture tests for #ChunkyFringe!

Full camera dry run next, and OBS scene setup...but food first.

My recollections from jumping on the #teletext bandwagon in 2023, after missing out on the comeback event in 2022 due to uni, relieved that I hadn't missed my last chance.

I honestly thought I'd lost my chance to be involved with the teletext community. A few years ago, I found a random reference to a one-off teletext get-together that had happened even more years prior, where updates had been beamed to a few venues using TVs which had been adapted to receive teletext via the internet.

"That's so cool," I thought, "I didn't know you could even do that!"

And so began a journey down a rabbit hole of nostalgia. There were VBITs and inserters and packet data and teletext recovery from VHS?!

This 18-element aerial was taken out of commission over a decade ago, purely because it wasn't the 43-element aerial I replaced it with.

Now, it's bringing Freeview to the new place, in tandem with my internal analogue TV-and-teletext distribution system, so I can have the best of both worlds!

Recently dusted the cobwebs off the outside broadcast kit, ready for Chunky Fringe 2025 this Saturday.

When I said I'd taken Twitch streamer (and variants) off my social media bios, I never said there'd never be another stream from me ever again.

For one, I'm hoping to stream from #ChunkyFringe soon!

It's just taken the pressure off it being part of my identity, and helping make dabbling fun again.
