A Paper Wasp with a dark reddish body and faint yellow stripes, and reddish legs and wings. This wasp was on some yellow Goldenrod flowers with a few blurred green leaves visible in the background. Seen at Great Meadows NWR in Concord, Massachusetts.

For today's bird, here's a male Spotted Towhee (a type of sparrow) at the Sonoma Botanical Garden in Glen Ellen, California. I rarely spotted this bird, so this was a treat! 🧡

A pretty male Spotted Towhee with a red and white chest, black wings with white spots and streaks, and a black head with red eyes. This bird was perched in a brown tree covered with small red berries. Seen high up on a hill at the Sonoma Botanical Garden in Glen Ellen, California.

A Yellow-rumped Warbler in its fall plumage of shades of brown and white with hints of yellow on the chest. This one is perched on brown branches with clumps of round white seeds that the warblers were eating as they passed through Concord, Massachusetts during their fall migration.

A beautiful Great Blue Heron with bluish gray body feathers and a long grayish white neck with a patch of blue on its head and a long blue and yellow beak. The bird was in some green and brown foliage in the pond, and the pond water was tinted with light blue colors caused by reflections of the blue sky aboe. Seen in Norfolk, Massachusetts.
