Change the rhetoric.

Instead of using the terms “autocracy”, “dictatorship”, “police state”, “existential crisis” - describe those things in personal terms, what they mean for individual lives.

Change the rhetoric.

He doesn’t mind being called evil or corrupt. But he doesn’t like anyone questioning his intelligence or manliness. So use those angles - call him ignorant and weak-minded for not knowing about constitutional rights, the rule of law. Let him rebut that.
