Professor of educational leadership @Gonzaga University writing about teacher’s work, structural inequality in schools and women’s disproportionate care burdens.
The courage and wisdom being shown by defiant federal employees is inspiring.

Look to the sparrow.

The resistance to this madness will come in the form of everyday people doing what is right.

1/4: Being an outspoken women and a teacher in the Trump-era is dangerous. I left the school district where this man lives in 2013... 2013! and he is still trolling me. How many male teachers/scholars do I know who are being trolled by former parents for daring to say something with confidence?

I took this photo in 2011 during protests to save public sector unions in Wisco. Teachers protested for months at the capital to unsuccessfully resist a Republican power grab led by Scott Walker (now hoping for a job with Trump).

We are still the canary, but the coal mine is now on fire.

Can we start an “ice bucket challenge” for teachers when they set a boundary around their labor?? But instead of a bucket of ice water, let’s dump cash over their heads!

Teachers are too often the only parts of the educational system that we look to critique or blame for oppression & inequality in our schools. Researchers, ed leaders, parents, & politicians need to turn their critical eye to the systems & structures that too often hold great teachers back.

Hey America, can we get our shit together so teachers don’t have to fundraise to survive student teaching, and what do ya say we throw cancer patients into this request also, right?
