Oh the French all have a bottle of something stashed away. 😆 Distilling is also highly regulated but wine production ensures there is always a good supply of eau de vie from skins. Plus a bit of distilling to make your own "gnole" is a bit of a national sport.

Yes! I did a bit of research and found this. I love how each region has its own traditional "home-made" alcohols. Here it's Quinquina, made with quinine bark.

Oh I've not come across that! But they do make sloe (prunelle) liqueur made with eau de vie rather than gin.

And British passports aren't "automatically issued" to anyone. It also costs £482 to renounce British citizenship. How is that better than paying £100 for a passport? 🤦
