Next week on October 15th, Christopher Clark (@camhistory.bsky.social), Susanne Bauer (@bbaw.bsky.social), @ffsterkenburgh.bsky.social, and I will present our four newly published books at @utrechtuniversity.bsky.social. Each book sheds light on a different facet of 19th Century Prussian history.

Save the date! On November 25th I'll be speaking @uni-kiel.de on the Second Schlewsig War of 1864. Several chapters of my PhD thesis cover this important event in both German and Danish history, using previously unknown archival sources.

„Zu den Höhepunkten des 55. Historikertags gehörten die Ausführungen von Jan Markert (Trier) und Frederik Frank Sterkenburgh (Utrecht). Sie führten anhand von Archivfunden aus, Kaiser Wilhelm I. sei keineswegs ein williges Werkzeug in den Händen seines Kanzlers Otto von Bismarck gewesen.“

Yesterday, Susanne Bauer (@bbaw.bsky.social), Frederik Frank Sterkenburgh (@ffsterkenburgh.bsky.social), and me presented our books at the @historikertag.bsky.social, followed by a highly engaging (at times even heated audience) debate, chaired by Ulf Morgenstern (@bismarckstiftung.bsky.social).

Look what I found, courtesy of @degruyterbrill.bsky.social. A nice prelude to tomorrow's @historikertag.bsky.social panel by Susanne Bauer (@bbaw.bsky.social), Frederik Frank Sterkenburgh (@ffsterkenburgh.bsky.social), Ulf Morgenstern (@bismarckstiftung.bsky.social),
and me.

Our books „Die Briefkommunikation der Kaiserin Augusta (1811–1890)“, „Wilhelm I. Vom „Kartätschenprinz“ zum Reichsgründer“, and
„Wilhelm I as German Emperor: Staging the Kaiser“ question and revise key narratives of 19th Century German history, providing ample amunition exciting discussions.

For those interested in my two cents on the use of old and media in historiography, my review of "An der Schwelle zur Moderne. Der Krieg von 1870/71", edited by Tobias Arand et al, was just published over at HSozKult (@hsozkult.bsky.social).
