Was it an actual NFC reader? Some TSA checkpoints have NFC, others require you to scan a QR code on your phone.

Sure nowadays people like to have wild, unique kites. I’ve owned several diamond shaped kites and it’s still extremely common. Also, this book was written in the ‘70s before these newer kite designs were available. 🙄
