Instead of flying somewhere I bought a carbon road bike (I promise no #midlifecrisis) and we rented a car to drive to Taihu (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Tai) to give it a spin.

If you live close to #Shanghai #China and like cycling, it's definitely a must do. It was just amazing. Some impressions:

Unfortunately, we blindly trusted a Chinese cycling app called #XingZhe, which on two occasions let us astray just "tiny" bit, which was annoying but taught as a valuable lesson.

... with some breathtaking scenery. While I haven't cycled in loads of places (mostly UK & Germany), the cycling in #China in the last days was the best experience I had so far. Also such a nice difference to the insanity that is traffic in #Shanghai.

Weird ggplot thing that got me this week with the update to 4.0 - it supports new ink and paper arguments (www.tidyverse.org/blog/2025/09... ) and they've changed how transparency works! If you a transparent bg, you can control it with theme_*() now #rstats

GitHub educator benefit application -- Apprived on May 25 and August 28 for 2 years, then asked to reverify on Sep 11 and denied, approved again September 27 and then denied three times again on the same day.
