Not that you can’t tell a good story in VR, but that since you can’t control the frame of the camera, it’s hard as an author to control what your audience sees. Think about the narrative challenges of open world games (4/4)

I wouldn’t go so far as to say games can’t tell stories as well as novels, but they need to use different storytelling than novels. There’s this great video by Austin McConnell I’m reminded of where they explain how VR films don’t work (3/4)

Games shouldn’t have to mimic films, just like films shouldn’t have to mimic theater, and theater shouldn’t have to mimic oral storytelling, etc. Games are a separate medium and should wield their strengths to tell compelling stories. (2/4)

As a fellow millennial academic I’ve done it before and think it’s fine. But I think the Thumbs Up emoji can usually carry the same meaning in work emails and is very safe.
