SpaceX finally has a credible competitor: Blue Origin successfully launched the New Glenn rocket, sent the NASA ESCAPADE mission toward Mars, and landed the first stage safely. Blue Origin is now the second company ever to achieve a recovery of an orbital rocket. Congrats!

Historical flashback: yesterday, 3 September 1970, Air France was the 1st customer of the new Airbus A300 placing an order for 6 aircraft. Important milestone for the renaissance of the European aviation industry! My first flight on an A300B2 (!) was in 1986 with a Air Inter flight from ORY to TLS.

A shitposting “science” account and an AI generated nonsense image = this kind of funny/stupid posting. If you'd like to see real photos of WISA Woodsat, navigate here:

This is a jewel of today's work (up to now). After many questions to Grok I wanted to thank it, but remembered that saying thank you to IA uses quite a lot of energy. So, I asked if I should thank or not. And here's the reply.
(Yes, I still use X and Grok – not touching politics, they're great)

Conjunction of Venus and Jupiter seen from Kourou. Bonus: a super bright ISS flyover! Yes, the lights are super bright, too…

Just noting again that “saving” money with low-cost carriers like Volotea is expensive: “save” 51.40 euros, pay additional 139.99 euros. Their business model is fooling passengers and so they have managed to oust good carriers from many routes. I'd like to pay more honestly, not like this.

Apollo astronaut (8 and 13, and Gemini 7) has passed away at the age of 97 years. One legend less…

At about 17:30 CEST / 18:30 EEST, when the riders enter Paris in Meudon, you can surely see on TV also the beautiful Observatory on the hill!

If ever, watch @LeTour on TV today! The race is following the route of the last year's Olympic road race in the cobbles and hills of Montmartre in Paris. The ambience last year on the location was stunning, surely will be today as well (but now I watch TV).

Happy #aphelionday! Today, our lovely planet is at its farthest from the Sun, 152.1 million kilometres this year. The orbit of Earth is slightly elliptical, and the closest distance, on 4 January this year, was about 147.1 million kilometres.

Just casually SpaceX #Transporter14 just launched seven (7) satellites from the Finnish space companies: KuvaSpace’s #Hyperfield1B and 6 SAR satellites from @iceye. Great!

It was slightly different midsummer (important day in Finland) five years ago. Midnight sun & stratospheric flight with Kitsat (followed by extremely nice tour in Lapland and Norway with many COVID restrictions still applied).

SpaceX’s Starship troubles just continue: now the ship for the next test flight exploded (experienced RUD) during routine testing. This Block 2 seems to be cursed.

Today, 6 June, I'm mentally in Normandy, remembering the 81st anniversary of the initiation of #DDay.
In total, 29,000 lost their life and 106,000 wounded/missing. Never again.

And waterplanes! The event in Biscarrosse was an international waterplane fly-in (Rassemblement International des hydravions #rid_biscarrosse) and so we had many amphibians and planes on floats. The best was a DHC-2 from Sweden! + Piper, Cessna and SeaMax featured here.

Other interesting oldtimer planes from Biscarrosse air show: Douglas DC-3 (C-47), Tiger Moth, Brücker 133, Grumman S-2 Tracker and two retired Socata TB 30 Epsilons.

What a beautiful airshow this weekend in Biscarrosse! Some very rare birds like Brequet 14, last flying Junkers Ju-52, Yakolev Yak-3 and Max Holste MH-1521 Broussard. Sadly the weather was grey...

Gilmour Space will launch this night (European time) a rocket from Australia, Queensland. Hopefully, the Eris rocket will have at least “10 to 20 seconds of stable flight” as the company hopes - preferably more! Hybrid engines are an unusual choice!

Remembering today the first image of the Earth taken from the surface of another celestial body: NASA’s Surveyor-3 sent back this photo from the Lunar surface on 30 April 1967.
Beautiful.

Remembering CERN today.

Is it a plane? Is it a boat? Yes. Atol Aurora is both. Yours truly is now helping friends at Atol Aviation with communications & looking at aircraft at #AERO2025. Nice!
