I think you are technically 100% right whether it's the minority or not. Language isn't supposed to make sense and any meaning of any word is only the majority agreeing to it. It's a social construct and nothing else. Colloquialisms make everything right and wrong at the same time.

It makes more sense from a proper English standpoint but it's almost like an informal version of English has become a separate dialect at times. For the record, I'm not nor have you ever been very good at grammar. I'm good at guessing what it should look like but I have never understood the rules.

Oh yeah, I understand but thank you. I'd just never in my life seen it corrected.
I'd argue the common usage of "thing" does make sense but it very much could be because I'm from a rural area where we use words improperly all the time. If I had a nickel for every time I heard "I could care less".

That's interesting. I've never heard that particular semantic debate. I've always assumed the "thing" is whatever you expect to happen will not so you've got "another thing coming". The thing could be thought or fist or pelican.

The extremely aggressive point is what gets me. His words never mean anything just vapid noise but that point had malice dripping from it. It reminded me of movies when Satan is pretending to be nice but his true form shows for a split second.
