Retired teacher due to post Covid me/cfs, my fatigue and brain fog issues mean I am now registered as disabled. I lived in Germany, hate Brexit and waffle a lot about solar panels, renewables and home batteries.
My first thought from the headline is while this person is very good at escaping prisons, they aren’t very good at staying free.

Ich fühle mich heute wie ein Sandsack! Und jetzt es regnet. Toll. Aber ich sage trotzdem „mustn’t grumble!“

I live in the East Midlands where the lampposts are covered in flags. There is no chance they will be removed as my council is run by Reform (well, I say run, they keep arguing amongst themselves and then get sacked or resign.)

Excellent! My car needs charging. Perfect timing.

This time last year I started getting a bit twitchy about the high costs on agile and thought about jumping ship. This year I have realised being on agile has saved me £700 and in the long run it was still cheaper over the winter than the standard tariff.

My understanding is we have an antiquated pricing system where the most expensive producer of grid energy is the thing that sets the price for all sources, which most of the time is gas. Other markets have moved away from this model. We have talked about it.

I have run out of things to do with all this free electricity. I saved £70 in May on agile (which I am glad I stuck with despite a serious wobble with the high prices over the winter) but there is a limit to how far I can push things! Not a bad problem to have though, compared to the alternative.

Agreed. I was shocked when that came up, it seemed to go against everything we were trying to set up with the cooperative schemes.
March 23, 2025 at 11:25 AM
Oh, and despite the worry caused by insane prices on Octopus Agile back in January I decided to stay on the tariff and ended up saving money. Things have calmed down considerably, but that is why I am motivated to increase my available battery storage.

The main thing we have been doing is saving as much as we can to reduce our mortgage. Not exactly exciting but we managed to pay off two years of our 10% overpayment allowance and that reduced the monthly payment by just over £400 a month.

Still suffering from the Chronic fatigue syndrome so just getting used to that. Lots going on in my private life that is really, really positive but not the sort of thing you share on social media! 😜

Totally, and I am about to invest in a larger battery array. The solar production had been down on the same period the year before but March has been amazing.

It is the single outstanding payment left on my Whitelaw Brae investment that worries me, as it means I am not fully paid up and could lose the nearly £700 I had already paid over the past year. I decided to pay in 12 instalments, it was only the last one left and I would have been OK.
March 23, 2025 at 8:56 AM
To be honest I am not worried about the investment as long as I get the energy payments through Octopus. I think the Derril Water co-op will still operate just not with Ripple as the management company. I am more upset about the impact on community based green investment as a whole.

Hi, thanks, I am still around I just went into severe lurking mode. I am doing really well, my mental health has improved a lot despite the world going completely bonkers. I had hit rock bottom just before Christmas and needed a reset.

I have popped back into the world of social media insanity to check up on this. I just saw the email from Sarah regarding Ripple ceasing to trade and I am absolutely gutted. Also I should have made one final payment on my Whitelaw Brae investment a few days ago that wasn't taken. Bugger
March 23, 2025 at 8:45 AM
I don't think I can do this any more. We are being hurt for doing the right thing. The entire idea behind agile is we are rewarded for load shifting, avoiding energy during peak demand periods. For several hours overnight my 30 minute prices are higher than the SVT costs.
February 8, 2025 at 6:09 PM
How can all the major charging networks be offering a few hours of 40% off plunge pricing tomorrow (according to the Octoverse app), but Agile is resolutely stuck hovering around the SVT?

Please let tomorrow be sunny!!!
January 9, 2025 at 10:13 PM
Is anyone able to see what tomorrows prices are in the Octopus app? There are no prices available for me after 11pm tonight. I won't know how to set up my battery charge schedule without the data.
January 8, 2025 at 7:20 PM
That was written really badly! Essentially my panels have managed to generate more in December this year than they did last December, only the second month this year that they have generated more in 24 than in 23. I hope that makes more sense!
