Hi, I'm Jasmine James, a freelance games PR. 👋🏽

I'm currently working with Double Jump (Fellow Traveller - Citizen Sleeper 2, Afterlove EP), Ziggurat (retro games), and taking on indie clients.

Indie or a small team looking for PR/influencer help? Drop me a line at [email protected] 💌

Google, you will answer for your crimes!

fwiw I know you want to help even if it can be frustrating for folks on either side of this (i say either side, like we aren't all on the side of "helping people know about cool things to play")
jasmo.bsky.social
Exactlyyyyy, as a PR person I have to find ways to get creative around this. Sometimes it's like "well this game is like this popular game meets x" or "previous similar game you covered did numbers" or just really appealing to the right writer?
jasmo.bsky.social
was the colour coordination w the jumper on purpose?
jasmo.bsky.social
While also being funny and kind! Truly the face of the league (I will not welcome any other candidates for this)

I know John at Kotaku often talks about the indiepalooza posts doing really well for the site but yeah - is that happening consistently?

We have to be realistic about the situation/or work w press to figure out HOW something can do numbers for them. e.g highlighting data from other sources

No Clip (in all its forms) is the fricking best. So glad to see the second channel do numbers, too!

We've added 14k YouTube subs to noclip_2 in the past month, pretty much exclusively covering underground and indie games like this. Please come be part of what we're building over there.

House of Necrosis by @warkus.bsky.social wears it's influences on it's sleeve. But it's roguelite loop and mystery dungeon gameplay presents a whole new challenge.

In any case, I'm glad the game is doing well without press coverage!

Supporting and taking lesser-known sites seriously is also key, so that they CAN become as big as Kotaku and that there are more spaces for folks to speak about great games.

Finally - this highlights why it's important to have a comprehensive marketing plan and not counting on any one part.
jasmo.bsky.social
It's also important not to disrespect the sites that aren't Kotaku, RPS et. al. Who's to say their audiences are especially interested in Little Rocket Lab and would generate sales, versus a smaller, more niche site with a switched on city-building audience?
jasmo.bsky.social
Looking at the launch press release (which is quite short), there's none of that data, no highlight of the hook, no info about requesting a code - unless that's in the preamble text I can't see. There's also a typo in the title of the Games Press version (unsure if that's your fault or theirs).
jasmo.bsky.social
In comms, did you highlight that it's on Game Pass, for example? Did you leverage the data for the demo or the support from content creators - stuff that shows press their articles would be read, too?
jasmo.bsky.social
As someone who regularly works with bigger and smaller gaming press, it's really about the angle and the execution. I know No More Robots sends to its own list for example - is that list updated regularly to keep track of all the layoffs and new contacts?
jasmo.bsky.social
see: Megabonk as an example.

Journalists actively want to cover smaller indie things but are sometimes unable to. It's not a case of "you're not big, fuck off," I think that's quite harsh and an unfair understanding of the pressures they're under, if I'm honest.
jasmo.bsky.social
We have to understand the realities of press in 2025. Catastrophic layoffs, overworked, underpaid journalists writing with a C-suite mandate to focus on SEO-driving games - games that people are searching for. That will typically include the bigger things but can include smaller games that take off
jasmo.bsky.social
This was not on my numbers go up list but hm, it also has a demo so maybe I could check it out
jasmo.bsky.social
I'm in the same boat - I know a guy who loves the series and keeps trying to convince me to play but it's so intimidating! @lloydcoombes.bsky.social says that character builds make all the diff

Maybe we give it a go during the next free weekend? If we can get over the ridiculous install size lol
jasmo.bsky.social
I want to get into a new Numbers Go Brrrrr game so bad
jasmo.bsky.social

To add - you don't need to posture in front of a journalist and no journalist is going to think you're an idiot. Even so, having someone think you're an idiot/being surprised you don't know about something is still better than written text where you talk out of your ass.

Thank you for this, as a PR person! In addition to "I can't comment," being able to say "I don't have an informed opinion about that right now" is also valid.

You can go back and do your research, journalists don't mind a follow up to add a thought later. Better than speaking in a misinformed way.
