People will eventually get better at hiding it, but for now at least a lot of tech people are trying to push it as a good thing and so will broadly advertise its use. That makes it easier to avoid.

That's the opposite of what I'm saying. I think you should protest all GenAI but not stress yourself out about things that may or may not be using it. If a game clearly states it uses AI in any capacity, then you should avoid it. If it doesn't, then you can assume it doesn't until proven otherwise.

I think this is one of those "perfect is the enemy of good" scenarios, but for consumption instead of creation. If a game overtly uses GenAI, then you condemn it. If you didn't know, then it's fine. The problem is if you start covering your ears so that you don't have to think about it.

I don't think it's helpful to think of hypothetical cases it would be acceptable when all current GenAI companies are resource-wasting plagiarism machines. There's no ethical way to use their software because anything you do supports the company.

That's a wild take to me. Stellar Blade felt like "what if we had Automata but with much worse characters but much better gameplay?"

I really enjoy pressing R1 with precise timing and my opinion of the game is pretty negative.

I think a lot of people ignore that the game actually kinda runs like ass and often has frame hitches whenever an enemy does a fancy attack. Even if you just wanna parry everything the game has issues.

I think it's because in addition to the people who like turn-based games, the design directly appeals to people who HATE turn-based games as well as anything made by Japan.

So you have normal people who think it's okay to great and then a bunch of weirdos who think it's the first good RPG ever.

Okay but what percentage of people were actively paying attention to industry stuff 13 years ago? The game awards were the first time I had ever even heard of Keighley.

Even if I had no issues with Capcom I don't know how you could do the Darkstalkers aesthetic in RE Engine.

That makes sense. I'm a big defender of Code Vein because it feels like every gameplay change was made to cater specifically to me. It feels like the devs and me both played Dark Souls and had the exact same ideas about what we would change.
December 10, 2025 at 5:28 PM
That seems a little unfair, since it's assuming every "soulslike" is just trying to be exactly like dark souls. Nioh and Code Vein devs didn't miss the point, they saw what they did and went "I think it would be cool if it was more like this instead" and did their own thing.

Seeing people say that tag fighters are supposed to be "high-power" kind of reminds me of the SFV era when everyone wanted 1v1 fighters to have "honest footsies" and no one really agreed on what that meant. Tokon is probably gonna be high-power but not in the way people expect.

I also find it kind of funny to see people say that the game feels too restrictive and then you look at 2xko and the main complaint I keep seeing is "why is Yasuo allowed to do that?"
December 7, 2025 at 3:40 PM
Looking at people's complaints about Tokon, the game seems like a blend of BBTAG and GBVSR systems-wise, so it makes a lot of sense to me why a lot of big MvC people don't find it intuitive.

From Sunbreak's release until the final update (which was nearly a year later), it was basically the only game I played. If you're someone who want to just play a game to completion over a month or two, then yeah it's better to treat the final update like the "full release."

I think with MH the title updates are better for the freaks who only really play MH. Having a slow drip feed of new stuff basically forces them to pace themselves. I didn't play World until IB, and I fought most monsters only once. When following the Sunbreak updates, I had full sets for everything.

I think this wouldn't be as much of an issue if they just had an upgrade path for people who already own it. If I bought P5 for $60, let me upgrade to Royal when it comes out for $20. At least that way it's only a problem for people who only ever play a game once.

Even ignoring nihilistic attitude, I'm pretty sure the particular tech that is necessary for all of genAI stuff was created in 2019. Like sure it could all be grouped under machine learning but at a base level the tech is different.

idk that still sounds like you have to play a lot. The thing I like about Granblue's battlepass is that you basically only have to play an hour per week to max it out. Even if you only get one skin, it's cheaper and less stressful.
November 14, 2025 at 1:54 PM
How long does it take to unlock all the skins?
November 13, 2025 at 11:31 PM
I am continually shocked at how GBVSR is the only fighting game with a battlepass that isn't complete dogshit.

Thinking 360s are hard but crouching normal into DP is easy is a real self-report. It really is just "execution should be tailored to my skill level specifically."
