I've spent a lifetime studying man's inhumanity to man with the belief in the "arc bends towards justice" just to watch it be thrown away by people that have never read a book in their life. I'm furious. Disgusted. Exhausted.

I also benefited from the shift to work from home. We already had the tech, but nobody wanted to use it. So I spent 1-2 hours a day driving to and from the office, and 1-2 days a week driving to various courthouses for 5min hearings. Small silver lining in the grand scheme of things.

It's also a huge safety improvement, eventually.

My BIL is retired FDNY. Figuring out where the gas lines are, and how to shut them off, was a huge part of his job.

If anything, most tech was kept out of the school/work flow.
Do the math. Show your work. No graphing calculators. Don't use wiki for sources.

“A more robust and effective damages regime obviously would not prevent unconstitutional conduct by government officers. But it sure would be an easy way to reduce its frequency—and it would also be a remarkably easy statute to write.”

Me in today’s bonus issue of “One First”:
Bonus 182: Damages as a (Missing) Deterrent
It's worth reflecting on how different things might look right now if federal officers—or the federal government itself—faced a meaningful specter of monetary liability for constitutional violations.

I don't remember anyone needing to push it on us.

Which I remember thinking at the time was kind of BS since he'd only been in office for 8 months at the time. Less when the nomination/decision took place. And I don't remember a big global outbreak of Peace during those months.
