Correct me if I’m wrong, but this reads like he conflating trade deficits with national debt. Only one of those matters, and it ain’t the trade deficit.

In other news, my fiancé and I are getting hitched this coming Saturday. I still don’t know what I’ve done to deserve her.

This is unbecoming of anyone serving in elected office. There’s also a logical conclusion to his “three ways of stopping this,” and it’s absolutely fucking insane.

Oh, come the fuck on. Rescinding the OMB memo, which was already unlawful and wasn't at all clear in terms of what it was trying to do, while saying this doesn't do anything but add to the confusion. I can't wait for the Court to strike this shit down.

Tell me you haven’t read the words of Jesus of Nazareth without telling me you haven’t read the words of Jesus of Nazareth.

Evangelicals have engaged in politics for decades, essentially endorsing Republican policies from the pulpit every Sunday even when those policies are inconsistent with scripture. A bishop urges a politician to treat people like humans, and suddenly, it’s “inappropriate.”

Senator Blackburn is, apparently, unaware that the violent crime rate is down and back to pre-pandemic levels. Actually, you know, she may be aware of this, but she is ignoring the data because she tends to do that.

Bummed not to have felt this in DC. I wonder if I would have if I was at home, closer to the epicenter.

Six years ago today. I kinda miss the longer beard. My significantly better half, though, has asked me not to grow it that long again.

It has to be a Chibson. Seriously, for $1,500, I’m getting something I know has tuning stability and solid pickups.

Stavesacre’s “Speakeasy” came out 25 years ago this week. I can’t even begin to describe the profound influence this record had on me. The song writing is brilliant, packed full of dissonant chords and engaging melodies. It’s also beautifully heavy.

Was this “austerity”? Was it “draconian”? It was neither. As noted in a previous post, compared to the average of FY 1990 through FY 2006, spending relative to GDP from FY 2008 through FY 2018 was higher. The share of the debt held by the public was significantly higher as well.
November 20, 2024 at 12:04 AM
Federal spending relative to GDP wouldn’t fall back to pre-recession levels until FY 2013, four years after the recess began.
