I went through a phase in the 2010s where I got REALLY into Underoath & The Devil Wears Prada. I enjoy metalcore/post-hardcore music a lot. Thursday's "Full Collapse" is probably one of my favorite albums ever.

I got Lost in the Sound of Separation from the STL library in 2010 and fell in love.

I've always thought that Underoath's "Lost in the Sound of Separation" was appropriate background music for the 2008 financial collapse.

It still holds up today as the soundtrack for the present day, imho

Also, this model only works for national journalists who have an large, existing audience. The idea someone who gets laid off from, say, the Des Moines Register can use Substack to write about municipal politics and make a living? No way.

That was my life in 2009 and 2011-2012. It doesn't work.
