Plus when Tower went out of business they hired a liquidator who didn't time the increasing %'s off correctly so basically all the merchandise was still left on the last day and I stood there in the store building a giant pile as they announced bigger and bigger discounts "50% off now" "60%" "80%" until they said everything was 25¢ and I checked out, purchasing the 1600 new CDs and DVDs I'd spent all day meticulously picking out

maybe a hip indie record store would have been better but I didn't have one of those. I had Tower Records. And they sold me 400 books like this for a quarter that I didn't, and probably still don't, understand

I've got Tower nostalgia I'm afraid. They used to operate a spectacularly large newsstand (thousands of periodicals) - and my store was boxing up all the unsold comics and selling them 20 for $5. I got so many indecipherable Vertigo comics when I was 12. This was in the suburbs. The system worked
