I hate to give wired credit for anything whatsoever. You may be right but I also think the label (or something like it) would have emerged without them

I need a way to refer to the place I go to rent a laser cutter. These days that’s called a makerspace.

Yeah they certainly want to take credit for things. Im sure it benefited them while it lasted. make.co/maker-moveme...

Wired was capitalizing on a term that existed previously.

Maker spaces went out of business all over the place, but a few still exist, and their denizens absolutely identify with the term. And many more crafters are doing more or less the same thing without the label. I don’t place a lot of value in identity generally though. You are what you do, imho.

It’s pretty low quality crap, even by Silicon Valley standards. I’m frankly surprised the money men thought we would be fooled. They really don’t think very highly of us apparently.

No. Makers gonna make. Hasn’t died out in the slightest.

Problem is, is the temporary enervation just what it feels like to learn? To get the new facts under your skin? I worry that it feels easier because it is simply absorbed less. It’s the quicker, more surface level answer, rather than the deep understanding. But maybe that’s the goal at times?
