Books like this led me to one of my favorite secondary bibliographical resources, titled "Triumphant Bore" about the Brunel's Thames Tunnel. Love the little joke in that title...

What do you get when you cross a peepshow with a petite book? A peti-pshow!

A peepshow, or tunnel book, is a book format that spaces multiple illustrated leaves apart from one another to create an illusion of depth when viewed through a front opening.
A peepshow book depicting a conductor and an orchestra. A peepshow book depicting people in a library. A peepshow book depicting a whale in front of a ship.

I just saw someone use the abbreviation “AI;DR” and I’ll be laughing for a while.

And I am honored to be a member of the Grolier Club and the Association Internationale de Bibliophilie. I've got a wonderful partner in Aundi, and my two brothers ( @jamesdean595.bsky.social and Zach) are my best friends. I am glad you're here, too!

I also work (with Nick Wilding) on Galileo's "Sidereus Nuncius" - this is a much longer term project (more in the middle future), but here's a fun talk we did about the book: youtu.be/0pkJVR_C7XU?...

Since I'm, faculty, I also undertake scholarly work. Right now, that means working on a census and description of Flamsteed's "Historia Coelestis" of 1712, with my collaborator @hillemmalouise.bsky.social , and you can learn more about that here: youtu.be/Hn6FeZ2UlZo?...

Specifically, I work at the Spencer Research Library, the rare books and manuscripts library for KU. A lot of the stuff you'll see here is my day to day work, and the fun bookish stuff I get to do. Like I said, I "do" bibliography (descriptive and analytical) for KU, and catalog rare books for them.

Sometimes bibliography looks like this, and by extension, rare book cataloging. 4 OCLC records, 3 secondary sources, flashlight for watermarks, etc: all to determine that our copy of “Cryes of London” is from 1689, from the fifth edition, first impression: 📜 #bookhistory #booksky #libsky #rarebooks

Well I just learned that Spencer has one of my favorite books ever in the collection. I am sure it'll be in the newsletter with @sibyllacumae.bsky.social soon...

Hi there, thanks for thinking of me. Do you want to gift them, or sell them? If you want to give them to a library, you might talk to the people at the UIUC rare book and manuscript library, or if you want to sell them, check this page out here: rbms.info/yob/
