I understand this. Please tell me you do, too.

Nobody cares about the victims in the Dallas ICE shooting apparently. The first I've heard about one of them was on CNN today. He's fighting for his life in the hospital --- he was brought to the US when he was 13. He's 33 now. No criminal record.

I just don't know what to say anymore.

There is no world in which it is normal for the president to publicly call upon his attorney general to hurry up and prosecute his political foes. It’s like the Watergate tapes but posted on social media. Let’s get a grip on what’s happening here.

This moment is disturbing even in the mundane: I’ve started taking screenshots of historical sources I’m using in research from the national park service, the smithsonian, and the national archives, just in case they get taken down. It’s now a part of my process and takes time I have to plan for.

#tdih 1850, U.S. Congress passed draconian Fugitive Slave Act which required that people who'd escaped from slavery to anywhere in U.S. be captured & returned. 💔 Punished those who did not comply.

Undoes claim of concern for "states rights."

J. Kameron Carter on a murder that is only perceived as martyrdom within that special US religion of whiteness “Kirk’s martyrdom is not a parable about expression. It is a revelation of authoritarian America’s ongoing attempt to sanctify itself.”: religionotherwise.substack.com/p/murdered-n...

I shouldn't be shocked, but I'm still always brought up short to realize how many people think "civility" means "white people speaking in relatively calm voices" no matter what vile shit they say.

there's a weird feedback loop where the media's reaction to kirk's death pushes you to speak more ill of the dead than you otherwise would because it's the only reasonable response to the simpering praise they're heaping on him
jaxhidalgo.bsky.social
“We can mourn Kirk. We can send prayers to his friends and family. We can take stock of the gravity of this event. We can — and should — do all of this and more without pretending he was something, as a public figure, that he was not.”
jaxhidalgo.bsky.social
“Kirk’s first act on the national stage was to create a McCarthyite watchlist of college and university professors, lecturers and academics.” I know people on this list who suffered for it. Murder is not the answer. Truth is. Bouie remembers Kirk honestly as the hateful, white supremacist he was.

“awful people don’t deserve to be killed, but they don’t deserve to be praised, either” is apparently a thought too complex for the pundit mind

Gov. Pritzker enlists the public's help: "What we've asked is that people pull out their iPhone or their Android phone and film what they're seeing. Take a video of everything so see so that we can know if, in fact, laws are being broken by these federal officials coming into our state."

I love how the "everybody had slaves back then" argument is so instantly revealing, because without knowing any history, anyone can easily think of a group of people who without a doubt owned zero slaves

If “good” white men cared about saving their nation, they’d organize themselves and infiltrate I.C.E.

It wouldn’t be difficult. The organization is anonymous—famously. Mask up and get to work‼️

You people should be gathering intel, identifying weak spots and opportunities for sabotage. 🇺🇸
