They do when it comes to silencing the left. But when they need to stand up to the right, they fold. Funny how that works.

Republicans do. But not when it comes to standing up to Trump.

Defeatism helps no one.

You can win with people who refuse to play by the rules, if you don't do the same. I wish more people understood this.

Show me this mystical "average Australian", and I'll show you Channel 9 sticking a microphone in front of the most racist person they could find randomly.

Also, eww. Caring about the state of the world, beyond your immediate circumstances. Gross. Grow up and be selfish like a normal person.

So, I actually think this trope is nonsense for a couple of reasons. First of all, a lot of the time, people's values don't change, society just changes and they don't. Second, sometimes (not always) people's economic interests changes during their lifetime. But that's happening a lot less nowadays.

You know what's a sign of privilege? Being able to pretend there is nothing beyond your nation's borders, and somehow your little country exists in a hermetically sealed bubble, not effecting or being affected by, anything outside of it.

These same people who always hated the Greens, but have no long term memory, and don't realise everything they post online or publish in some form, now exists forever, and will follow them just as long. Or they're just liars and hypocrites. Take your pick.

Unfortunately, I can't agree. I think most people are fairly indifferent to anything that doesn't directly affect them.
