Disinformation is more potent than most weapons. We have a civic duty to combat it and teach our children to do the same.

Why? Since moving over to BlueSky I have many young women wanting to follow me? I am not interested in following you back unless you want to engage seriously in discussion of gardens, books or politics. Not into DMs.

Donald Trump has nominated _his own personal attorneys_ for the _top three positions_ at DOJ.

Where is the outrage from the legal community? From academia? From the media?

Trump is a man who has repeatedly says he has a right to control all DOJ operations and to treat DOJ as his personal law firm.

Much of Australia enjoys the same Mediterranean climate as LA. When it comes to bushfires, that doesn’t bode well

It’s vital to understand how climate drivers played out before and during the LA wildfire emergency – because many Australian cities face the same climate risks.

Yep. The LA fires have made it abundantly clear the response will always be:

1) Blame environmentalists
2) Try to buy their way out of it.

Tbh Australia has now had a 20 years of so of bushfires being blamed on Green groups.
It would be a mistake to think that everyone experiencing the worsening impacts of climate change will suddenly accept what needs to happen to arrest it. Misinformation and conspiracy theories will be deployed to muddy the waters as much as possible - looking at the comments in the US, it's working

These extraordinary photos of the LA fires have been shared widely on social media, often without crediting the photographer.

These are all the work of Ethan Swope, an LA-based photojournalist working for AP.

Every word in this thread is true. I don't know how to solve it, but the refusal of Dem leadership to even acknowledge it is literally going to drive me insane.
What we’re done is create a massive information infrastructure which privileges conspiracy theories, demagoguery, bigotry, lies, and hysteria - much larger than the traditional news infrastructure. It’s the main information source for many.

And then new political movements evolved to exploit it.

Peter Dutton was part of a govt that for 9 years, drove people on benefits into the ground, chasing some for a measly $10.50, and even, causing some to suicide

And now this vainglorious plaster-saint tells Australians he's had high-level legal advice, but we can't be told its value

Oh the stench

Stocks surged more than 24 percent in 2024, even as Americans fretted over the economy. Of course, you’d never know that from the media coverage during the months leading up to the election.

Do you know how much CEO pay has skyrocketed since 1978?

100%? 500%?

Try 1,085%

Meanwhile, the $7.25/hr fed. minimum wage hasn't budged in 15 years and the tipped min. wage has been $2.13/hr since 1991.

This is what I mean when I say the system is rigged.
CEO Pay Has Risen 1,085% Since 1978, But for Workers? Just 24% | Common Dreams
CEOs at top US companies saw their pay skyrocket by 1,085% since 1978, while typical worker pay only increased by 24%

As an Australian please let me say,on this platform, the strangest thing I see about the USA, is not Trump, though that’s strange enough, is the school shootings that I find unbelievable but ubiquitous in that country. Can never be great while that continues unabated.

California, a state of nearly 40,000,000 people, has the same amount of representation in the United States Senate as Wyoming, a state of less than 600,000 people.

This is the direct result of a deal struck between slave states and free states in the 1700s.

It’s time for that to change.

The success of kids and communities goes far beyond test results. Schools should teach critical thinking, problem solving, resilience, and how to build and sustain relationships. Approaches like CTE provide an opportunity to go from tinkering to truly transformative training.
