When I downloaded this app I wanted to be active on it and make friends and post to hashtags and what not but I’d rather just be a lurker and not interact with anyone.

Anyways here’s a picture of a silly little benzene.

For fossil Friday I bring forward a group of 4 genus glyptodon fossils. Related to the current day armadillos. They lived through the pleistocene, living until about 10,000 years ago, some believe they went extinct due to hominids using their shells for shelter. #fossilfriday

Just found out that horseshoe crab larvae stage is called the trilobite stage because the larvae resembles a trilobite. (I don’t agree) I don’t believe this is a case of ontogeny but it’s still cute 🧪

Wanted to post a thread about frog hearts, it ended up being 15 posts long, I may be a certified yapper. Heres the simple version: Frog heart 3 chambers, Has bumbs to seperate blood, conus arteriosus has a spiraled lumen to seperate blood. Thats literally it, how did I extend this to 15 posts? idk 🧪

Heres a picture of a mature segment of a tapeworm, called a proglottid. Each dot are individual testes (about 1000 of them), they come with a pair of ovaries too. They can fertilize eggs in the same proglottid, neighboring proglottids, or other tapeworms

The female frogs back thickens and forms pockets, known as brood pouches. Then the frog's skin completely encapsulates the eggs to be under parental control. The larvae skip past the tadpole stage and they emerge as little frogs. Is this the worst frog or the best frog? You tell me.
November 21, 2024 at 1:05 AM
So just like other frogs, pipa pipa goes through with amplexus, male jumps on the female's back and fertilizes the eggs with its hindleg as they emerge. However, like I said these frogs are not oviparous, so the male uses its hindlegs and places the eggs onto the females back to be held.

These frogs arent just the most handsome fellas you've ever seen, they also have the most interesting (in my opinion) reproduction of any frog. Most frogs are oviparous meaning external egg birth, this frog is viviparous meaning live birth.

It's wednesday so you know what that means, it's amphibian wednesday! (I made this up) My contribution is the Pipa Pipa “common Surinam frog”. (Trypophobia warning) Dont read this thread its disgusting and im sorry #science #frogs

This one is true for common ink caps but maybe not shaggy ink caps, i'm not sure. But they have a myotoxin called which inhibits an enzyme that does alcohol metabolism. This leads to a buildup of ethanal (partially oxidized ethanol). Causing an Alcohol Flush reaction.
November 18, 2024 at 1:04 AM
I found a research review paper about this and the picture of the structures that the shaggy ink caps use are insane. (I'll post the article at the bottom of the thread, read it I beg)
