agreed,we musicians have been complaining about every new tech being bad for music for centuries, the difference with the latest tech including a.i. is that it is taking away the creative process, and trying to make things both easy and perfect, if there is no struggle there is no beauty.

So basically the series lost used this plot for the 5th season.

In music, this goes beyond ability, the fact that almost all musical instruments are not "perfect" and that they require you to struggle against their faults is where the beauty lies, Most modern recording tech is designed to "fix" the problems of acoustic instruments and voices and ruins it.

I feel the same way about Peavey practice amps, in the early 80s almost every kid had one and the distorted tone (super saturated solid state distortion) from those amps became the de facto rock tone in the late 80s early 90s, and by that I mean it sounded like ass. So yeah, what's next?

I had a friend (not a doctor) when I was in my 20s whose recommended cold treatment was to eat a giant bowl of pasta and garlic sauce (using 1 head of garlic) drink a 5th of vodka and take some nyquil, then go into a coma for a bout 15 hours, maybe give it a try.Seriously, hope you feel better soon.

All that talk of concerts and merch and not one mention of "Big Johnny".

I feel The captain is one of those artist that you need a "gateway drug" for. I reccomend "clear spot" from 72', it's still got the magic without too much wierdness, once you get that in your blood the rest goes down easier.

Sorry James Brown is out, I did not realize you onlt wanted artists that were not on the main podcast, sorry.
December 17, 2025 at 3:46 PM
"Santa goes straight to the ghetto" by James Brown or "Back door Santa" by Clarence Carter, unless you've already covered them, I forgot to check.

Radio is not T.V., podcasts are not videos, each medium has it's strength. I prefer the intimacy of audio only for podcast, just like my favorite iteration of HHGTTG is the radio play. If I'm learning about nature I might prefer visuals, but certainly for a music documentary I prefer audio.

Oh and Pinnker can f off into the sun because of that "music is aural cheesecake" line from his book.

"Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis" is a good start.

As a musician, it used to frustrate me when people would say they would put music on "in the background" while they were doing other things, now it seems people are saying same about film and television. I beg you people, start giving things your full attention, it will change your life.

The nepo thing works better in acting than music, most children of famous musicians have a tougher time due to high expectations, see Julian Lennon, Sean Lennon, Ben Taylor, Wolfgang Van Halen and others, while successfull they are sometimes overshadowed by their parent.

There are children for whom Matt Smith was their doctor who can now vote and drink in pubs, so think on that. Time marches on, even if it is "wibbly wobbly, timey wimey stuff"

If only someone could write a story of a rich person who is miserable and not enjoying their money and is then transformed overnight into a good person, maybe by some ghost's or something, and perhaps set it at Christmas time. I'm sure they would all change their ways after such a tale.
