True, but Interlock is incredibly expensive for poor people who often have to drive. Any PD can tell you horror stories about the cycle of costs, job loss, etc that can flow from a DUI. The costs of non-enforcement exist but the costs of compliance exist too and it’s ok to worry about both.

The thing is, judicial restraint is probably MOST appropriate in situations like these, where there’s nothing preventing the democratic branches from fighting an issue out (eg, who controls which agencies)! It’s like FN 4, only the exact opposite…

Real ones just buy the books and drive their partners to becoming justifiably upset about both the clutter and the book bills. Ask me how I know.

Agreed on both counts, but all the incentives run the other way - it’s easier to cover content-free stuff, and it flatters the journalistic self-conception as objective reporters who don’t take “sides” by actually describing the reality of policy.

Just make sure it’s pointed in the right direction - I do not want to see that man’s browser history.
