The orange here is not like candy or juice, but fresh oranges. I think the presence of orange oils from juicing the tangerines whole, peels and all, helped in the end
That said, lots of losses, >25% loss

Done and bottled the tangerine mandarin orange mead.
12% at 1.048 gravity. The sweetness helped with the pith bitterness, which has mostly mellowed out
Smell is juicy oranges
Taste is thick orange, a little cloying, but the presence of peel helps balance it
Aftertaste is extremely orange
