Have you read any of the Thursday Next series by Jasper Fforde? Set on an alternate Earth, it features a time traveling literary detective that can actually get sucked into novels and interact with the characters.

Haven't seen this one, but I did watch Son of Belle Starr a couple of weeks ago.
