Let's see... 39 years teaching journalism at NYU. A critic who tries to be useful. PressThink: the name of my subject and my site. My book: "What Are Journalists For?" (1999, Yale University Press)
Perfect, Dave.

"People have been trained by social media to read everything in bad faith..." ( ‪@kccomplainsalot.blacksky.app‬ ) is something I struggle with in my space (press criticism and media trends.)

Talking to the 99% of the users who lurk by responding to the 1% that speaks up can be difficult and weird.

Email would be great, thanks.

Yes. I would think so.

We haven't heard anything about that.

Hi, Rodney. I heard about that, but need to study it more.

Any other account of it in English? I don't subscribe to that one.

I really don't know. Nobody knows. When you subtract 300 from 800 you have a different company.

Why didh't he start the killing right away? There was a stretch during Trump's first presidency where the Post almost out-performed the Times. All part of the plan?

Thanks, Greg. Lots of people have had that idea.

I will start thinking about that when it happens.

My own view is that it has to be both. Rich understanding of the users and what they expect, and great journalism that informs people of what they didn't know.

I've seen all kinds of edits after publishing.

Not uncommon.
February 8, 2026 at 1:06 AM
That is sad.

Many observers asked that at the time.

I think it's fair to say that he was hired to be some kind of "tough guy," who didn't care about being disliked, and who would bring the newsroom the bitter news. “People aren't reading your stuff,” he told them. You're failing Digital 101.

Thank you, but experience has taught me to wait when I don't know what happened.
February 8, 2026 at 12:29 AM
What sort of slant did you mean?
February 8, 2026 at 12:21 AM
Thanks, Don.

Don't know yet.
