I'd say it's more complicated than just persecution. It's easier to maintain authoritarian forms of communism against capitalist intervention than as more anarchic communities with loose bonds, and if you're hated by the state no matter what, might as well be one that doesn't exploit you (as much)

Ireland here, same problem and not just that, I applied in *2017*. Had to get referred AGAIN in *2020* because I moved house. Doctor claimed I got referred by him, turns out he lied and when I later confronted him in *2022* after finding out he said it 'wouldn't help me' and I didn't need it.

I mean, Greta Gerwig seems to give them a lot of focus...
