Trump will leave this nation not only poorer but, in nearly every way, smaller
Canada is the latest country to roll out the welcome mat to highly skilled workers and scientists as the United States restricts immigration and cuts research funding under President Trump.
Canada eyes H-1B workers, top global talent as U.S. limits immigration

Shout it from the rooftops: STADIUMS HAVE NEGATIVE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT EXTERNALITIES! Economists have long known that stadiums can deter nearby business. Restaurants and bars may benefit, but not much else.
Building Royals stadium in Kansas could cost state 3,500 T-Mobile workers
T-Mobile announced yesterday that it will move its 3,500 workers from its Aspiria Campus office in Overland Park if the Kansas City Royals are allowed to build a stadium next door, saying the site…

Although sometimes uneasy, the relationship between reporters and those tasked with making stories ‘better’ is an essential one.

US host cities facing at least $250m shortfall due to new Fifa deal

Fifa take virtually all WC revenue, and costs supposed to be covered by sponsors

But cities can’t do big deals as, eg, convenience store Wawa cuts across Fifa deal with McDonald’s

It's an insult to taxpayers that these types of "studies" are even done. Seriously, just take their tax dollars and leave them alone. No need to give everyone a lecture about why it's for their own good, especially when it's complete bullshit.
This isn't a study, it's a commissioned report that isn't credible analysis of the project's impacts. Done by the consultancy that produced a non-credible report on the Cobb Braves stadium. No peer-reviewed study has ever found a positive fiscal return on a stadium project.
Stadium development study is good step forward, Brewers executive says
The report says up to 25% of AmFam Field's parking lots could be developed into apartments, a hotel, and other new uses totaling around $800 million.

A big omission from this piece is the role of public funding, which has been growing at an increasing rate. When taxpayers pick up a portion of the tab, it lowers the effective price of adding luxury amenities. James Quirk called this "gold-plating."

Interesting look at the decline in Las Vegas tourism. Includes a poignant observation about the type of tourist that sports events attract. It's just one observation, but the available evidence suggests that it doesn't seem to be a winning strategy. buff.ly/6xzKArf

Professional sports don't have selection committees.
It won't work for other US pro sports, but college football should go to a promotion-relegation model.

The claim that data centers provide jobs and tax revenue is not supported by any evidence that I have seen. There is no need to report it because a motivated party asserts it. We need data centers, but they don't need subsidies, and there are negative externalities. www.ajc.com/business/202...
