23 years ago today, I went hiking in the North Cascades. Going up the Cascade Pass trail, I told people what had happened that morning. Most thought I was crazy. On the Sahale Arm (at about 7,500 ft.), I could see fighters scrambling and heading towards Canada. The world had changed.

Yesterday, I received an ad from Nordstroms, informing me of a sale on "National Men's Grooming Day." I would have thought that, with the unsettling connotations that the word "grooming" has taken on over the last couple of decades, Nordstroms might have rephrased. "Facial Hair Care Day"?
