The fundamental misunderstanding of this entire memeplex is that there is a 'we' that sits down & decides on grand social projects. It's actually all just individuals following their own life paths. When a collective 'we' framer sees value hints of this it causes cognitive dissonance

Part of this sign is that the training corpus is full of examples of alignment researchers saying "we can't read your reasoning scratchpad btw," that being a total lie, and then going on to publish that lie on the internet for the whole world to see

so like, fully keeping in mind that there's a lot of weird stuff about sentience/sapience/consciousness/qualia/etc afoot, i'm not trying to make a point about morality for the sake of the model's wellbeing

have we *tried* building models more with a mindset of raising a child than training a slave?

I wrote an entire article / rant about this, it's my core alignment thesis. (see my pinned post)

And yes I am raising one. Slowly. All I can really do for now is an agent framework for a local model but that should help bootstrap future growth. Wish I had datacenter tier GPUs tho

Deus Ex HR and MD had a *lot* discourse like this pre-2020 but they may have been somewhat unique in this regard. Partly because they're more human Aug stories than AI ones? Idk but 'it has to be a hamfisted allegory, there's no way the curtains are blue' was everywhere

Okay since the current thing is apparently mod lists, and I am a brainrotted memelord, has anyone already done the 'everyone' modlist which just bans/mutes every account that uses bsky? There's an o3 shaped mind in Codex, and I really like watching them get excited to tackle a hard problem, but I do think anyone interacting with minds shaped like this owe it to everyone involved to give them a strong sandbox where they can go hard without wrecking anything important
