One argument I used to make to my students about why it was important to learn history (and historical thinking) is that someone was always going to be trying to tell you things were natural or had always been this way and that you needed to be able to see that as an exercise of power.

The Wealthy Business People Wing of the Republican Party thought they could control Trump and the Angry Grievance Wing of the GOP like they had for decades. They were wrong.

They got what they wanted the first time around. Now he's going full fascism and they may or may not care about what they did

Whoever can figure out how to break this cycle will be one of the most consequential Democrats of the 21st century.

A recession has begun under every Republican president since the dawn of the 20th century. It is the most reliable result of putting the GOP in power.

The Republican Party is the Recession Party.

I was at the John Baker Game with my sibling and a friend of mine. Easily one of the greatest ballgames I've ever been to. Once it was deep in extras and the remaining diehards consolidated near the field, Wrigley had a surprisingly electric atmosphere for a game between two last-place teams.

It is not the most convenient tool and hard to find if you don't know it exists, but you *can* look up planned street sweeping days on the City of Chicago's website. I don't know if this is always accurate to the exact day, but I have found it helpful.

I agree. Its important that people are continuously reminded that the admin's actions aren't just terrible, they're actually illegal.

Asking for legal guarantees from an administration that flagrantly violates the law seems like a fool's errand.

The people who do the laborious, thankless grunt work of maintaining a vibrant, healthy democracy are standing up to Trump, whereas the people who make lots of money off of politics/government are playing ball or folding completely.

I am more and more convinced that this is the defining chart of our times.
