Amazing talk from Galyna Grygorenko, Deputy Minister of Culture in Ukraine. While their cultural institutions and social spaces are being destroyed they are fighting to preserve (and produce new) cultural life.

Culture as resilience and resistance!

David Lynch has probably been my longest-standing and most consistent obsession and absolutely the source of my love of film.

I have spent most of my life excitedly anticipating his next film/show, and it leaves a hole knowing that there won't be another.

Oh dear - I'm not much of a gardener, but I don't think my daffodils should have sprouted this early.

I wasn't ready for this exhibition of salt dough figures in Hawkshead last year.

Just been reminded about it - there were some pretty terrifying effigies.

A wild and windy few days in Liverpool - but lots of very exciting plans for #BSF25 starting to take place!

These pics may or may not have anything to do with the Festival.

Was lucky enough to see Bob Dylan for the second time this weekend.

Equally spellbinding but entirely different from last time, even though the set list was similar. Looser, louder and more rock n' roll. A real treat.

Applications for the British Science Festival 2025 Award Lectures are now open!

There are seven award areas for early career researchers who are passionate communicators.

The Award Lectures are always one of my favourite parts of the Festival.

Had my first taste of cyclo-cross this weekend - super hard work in the thick mud, but great fun with great people!
November 27, 2023 at 4:48 PM
At the BSA's For Thought event. Great first session on the Future of Education.

Slightly dispiriting reflection that our education systems have hardly changed in the last hundred years - a real challenge to re-imagine how we build our educational institutions.

Slightly star-struck at being in the same room as these incredible cyclists.
