The "deep state" was always the fact that we used to have a bureaucracy full of educated, experienced people that knew how to get shit done. Trump and company always hated smart, competent people so now they're all gone.

Crap. Do I have to like Duran Duran now? I had a perfect 44 year history of not doing exactly that.
January 12, 2026 at 5:53 AM
Well, never mind. My wife just got home from work and says lawyers use CSAM all the time now. They don't actually know the purpose of change. They never use "CSAM" in conversations about these crimes.

How is this an either or? "I was raped as a child and was video recorded for the production of child pornography which was shared on the internet". Shortening that to a little anagram - how is that helping?
January 11, 2026 at 11:52 PM
Yup. There it is. That reaction. You forgot that the victims of sex exploitation are different from sex workers in the porn industry. The language is supposed to protect the latter, not the former. I can assure you that the victims of child porn don't give a rat's ass about the language used.

"Child pornography" hits normies harder. The "child" part makes it a given that it can't be consensual and is criminal. I think we should keep language policing to a minimum and reserve it for hate terms (racist, homophobic). I've known too many non-political middle-aged people turned off by it.

"Abuse" covers too many things great and small, eg, verbal abuse. It may just be me, but it doesn't strike me as strong enough term to justify changing anything.
January 11, 2026 at 10:24 PM
"sex with a child" gets used a lot. It gets the severity of the charge across and I don't think it stigmatizes "sex" in any way. Including "child" in anything seems to be the point.

You might want to update the legal profession. No lawyer I know uses "CSAM". Personally, I think "child sexual abuse material" is not very descriptive. My wife is a defense attorney and has to deal with the worst of the worst. "CSAM" is way too polite for what she has to deal with.
January 11, 2026 at 7:56 PM
Wait. Why don't we use that term anymore?

Give them some credit. Who could've guessed that more than 50% of Hispanics would vote for the MASS DEPORTATIONS platform? Or white women voting for the party that ended Roe?

I wasn't Nostradamus either. But I had knocked on ~3000 doors in 2016. Between the doors immediately slammed in my face and the insufferable complacency of registered Democrats, I assumed the worst. Even the Dems had all kinds of weird conspiracy theories about her health.

I was a giant nerd at 11. Things generally didn't become lame until I was 16 (though still a nerd).

I know! And if you talk to any big Clinton supporter from that time Bernie's support was "half-hearted" and "lackluster". Clinton visibly hated him on stage the whole time and he did it all anyway. They still think *he's* the reason they lost to Trump. It's amazing.

I worked on Bernie campaigns in 2 states and then for local dems (DCCC) in my very red state in 2016. "Hey guys, on election day we're all going to pull together, right?" Silence every time on both sides. Did *not* enjoy being right on Election Day.
December 23, 2025 at 6:54 AM
My apologies. Read it wrong waking up. Canvased for Bernie 2016 and then dealt with too many DNC types after that that blamed Bernie for the loss that year. Yeah, Bernie put himself out there and normie Dems could never let it go. To *this* day. Still frustrating.

In what world was Bernie a Stein supporter? He literally campaigned for Hillary about a dozen times after losing the primary.
December 23, 2025 at 6:31 AM
I was 11 when he "jumped the shark". If it struck me as lame then - well it had to be *really* lame.
December 23, 2025 at 6:05 AM
I know. It's bizarre. "Why do you suppose every other vaccine does not create this problem??"
December 17, 2025 at 9:43 AM
I have to admit. The man makes a good point.
