I always felt like Barack just wanted to steer the boat, sit in the captain’s chair. I think it is the disconnection between his inspiring rhetoric and his cynical veer to the middle the day after he took the oath.

I think his presidency and post-presidency have been about the same. The greatness of his presidency just needs to be adjusted downward. He was a decent president, the best of my lifetime. That’s more because all of the presidents 1971 on have been bad.
