My initial reaction is that this has likely been true for a long time, but the advent of social media influencers in all these fields makes being famous seem so much more attainable than just doing a good job at the actual job and so more people pursue fame.

For the octa/septuagenarians, I get having their whole frame of reference stuck in amber from the 90s. I don’t understand someone with half of their political career happening during the Trump era suffering this affliction.
