The media point is questionable - I live in Australia and yes, the govt-in-waiting function matters re attention, but media still turns to shadow cab MPs for comment even when no election or change of govt is likely for years (esp state-level). Can’t argue with your point re NY Dem picks though.

Also seems likely that rather than any technical competence, much of Musk’s rise is rooted in a weird charisma that convinces ppl to join him in pushing boundaries, ignoring rules, etc. A very fitting skill within this admin but totally at odds with sound public administration.
