It needs to be repeated again and again that every single AI system isn't free of bias, they reinforce the bias of the people who created them.

Someone who is more organized and dedicated than me should take a deep dive into the history of tech media. Now that I've listened to this episode it got me wondering, has tech media always been like this? Or is this a more recent development?

I love seeing the different designs for the same signs in protests, this one was at the demonstration in my hometown today.

And buying an officers commission is always a great way to ensure military readiness and competence.

This is hilarious, but I I would not be surprised if they start glorifying stuff like this to try and make it look heroic and legit. Smedley Butler talks about medals being handed out like candy in the US's invasion of Veracruz in his book "War is a Racket."

A book I'd recommend is Spencer Ackerman's "Reign of Terror," it was released in 2021 and perfectly predicted what's happening now. In a nutshell the thesis of the book is that all of the tactics and equipment the US used abroad in the war on terror has been brought back home.

I was listening to a different science podcast about the not dire wolves and immediately stopped listening when a New Yorker reporter started talking about how cool this guy was because of all the start ups he'd been a part of. A few days later this episode drops, I'm glad my instincts were right.

I'm glad there are shows like Science Vs that slow down and think critically about claims like this. I understand people's well founded concern about plastic poisoning but believing and spreading something that is obviously not true is wasted effort.

I'm glad that there are people with the patience to explain why funding science is obviously a benefit for the economy and humanity in general. And I find the argument of certain studies being "wasteful" or "unnecessary" to be harmfully shortsighted. We don't know what we don't know, that's science.

I'm glad Last Week Tonight is using its platform to stress the importance of media standing up to authoritarianism. More people need to know that giving ground won't placate authoritarians, it will only embolden them to take more and more rights away until we're left with nothing.
