A multi level feeding frenzy on Cape Cod Bay. On the surface there are mergansers. Above are many gulls. And high above are gannets. Occasionally the mergansers have to fly a bit to keep up.

Many monarch butterflies (Danaus plexippus) fluttering around some Buddleja davidii bushes. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this many monarchs in one place. (Shelburne Museum, Shelburne, VT, USA)

Two #broodxiv northern pharaoh periodical #cicadas (Magicicada septendecim) laying eggs. Sandwich, Mass.

It’s almost the end of brood xiv. There are still some calling but we saw many dead ones.

More #broodxiv #cicadas. Found these at a rest stop on US route 6 on the mainland side of the Cspe Cod canal. They’re northern pharaohs (Magicicada septendecim).
