Side point on #chatcontrol: When I worked on the law in the European Parliament, in the face of questionably legal, and highly problematic behavior by DG HOME, I prepared a whitepaper on why it was such a terrible Idea.

As it is in the public interest, I have decided to make that white paper […]

I currently read Alex Vitale's The End Of Policing. I was skeptical at first. After about a third I thought "Yes OK that's true but mostly applies to the US, right?"

But then, where Vitale argues #police has always been a political, never a #crime-fighting tool, I suddenly realised:

Holy shit […]

@jmaris The article mentions Denmark, where the de facto mandatory eID (MitID) has led to a situation with 20% of the population feeling digitally excluded from parts of society.

1. What my daughter posted on Instagram.

2. What Instagram put over her post.
A flowery message saying, "Immigrants make the country great" in white text on a pale green background, with flowers around the words. Instagram slaps a warning over the entire screen, saying, "Sensitive content. This photo may contain graphic or violent content." There is a button saying "See why" and another saying "see photo."

#ironi

@jim Tried to different IP geolocated in Denmark. In both cases, I am asked to login and confirm that I am over 18 (since I deleted my Reddit account after they started selling user data to OpenAI, I cannot check what age verification check is required outside the UK).

EU is demanding that every site use age verification technology, while insisting it do things it cannot do, and behave in a manner it cannot behave. This is not policy making. This is wishful thinking, with a side of "we'll just blame the tech companies for not waving their magic wand."
At the same time, a Commission press release said it expects any age assurance method that's used for child protection purposes to be accurate, reliable, robust, non-intrusive and non-discriminatory.

Last night I spent hours trying to figure out why my rpi zero 2W hates my Unifi APs. Turns out, AI was the reason. Had to turn off 'WiFi AI'. Goddamnit. #ai #internetofshit
The option WiFi AI in the Unifi Controller settings.
