post-dysentery adventures I've become a lot more libertarian on this sort of thing, though I'm sympathetic to the critique of pay being substandard (as the amazon summary for this book alludes to) rather than being per se unethical and unacceptable (as regs in e.g. canada, most of the EU take it)

I was a hardcore libertarian in high school and am now not one at all, and it'd be inaccurate to say that libertarianism influences the actions I take/beliefs I have today. I reject libertarianism now!

i mean counterpoint, if the community is rejecting him and what he is doing is patently antithetical to textbook effective altruism (which for all its flaws is pretty famously a big fan of medical aid to africa), then is it fair to say it influenced him meaningfully?

about once a month i experience a brief urge to restart BCT before catching myself and remembering that no, I don't actually want to do that. seeing covers like this is always a trigger :)

I guess they thought wow this guy put the meds down on the intake form but is still ashamed and conflicted about actually admitting his HIV positive status out loud. poor thing.

1) aww I appreciate it 💕 2) screening is to make sure it’s safe for me too! 3) I’m like 10x less worried about Zika fever than dysentery, it’s very mild for almost all adults — the real danger is for pregnancy since it can cause serious birth defects, which is not a risk for me/Jimmy lol
