They will remember you were ready to run the place they were interested in seeing”

The old pathfinder dm guide had something like that when it was going over players being able to travel freely:
“Just use the throne room you’ve prepped. Players won’t notice these royal guards don’t have the perception bonus for being elves instead of humans but-“

There’s nothing quite as compelling as an idea that was *almost* interesting

*Kyle Katarn from Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight voice* “that’s not going to work”

Oh absolutely, and that’s what they were going for I believe

It’s just that everyone could see the progress of the chaos army and knew it was stuck in kislev

Oh 100%, sucks to get your shit rocked especially when you’re brand new and just picked up the hobby.

The real tragedy of the storm of chaos was that instead of running with what the stats told them was happening, GW just hand waved it all away so they could get their big battle in front of Middenheim

Which I can understand, they built an amazing table for it, worth checking out if you want

Oh yeah, Brandy McNewman and their hastily gathered force of dipshits running into someone who’s been collecting and playing for multiple editions and their many cannons was always going to end poorly
January 23, 2026 at 4:53 PM
I guess not in the sense that chaos was the poster boys for fantasy back then, but because it was an army full of big dudes in armour that was pretty easy to paint and you didn’t need a lot of them to get a full sized army on the table

Plus the hellcannon was pretty cool

Part of the issue was there was a lot of brand new players picking up chaos for the same reason space marines are a popular first army choice.

Literally a skill issue for the side of chaos.

Wild, they give you rules and a framework to be a chaos warlord, and advice on how to run a campaign centered around it.

Hey how’s brexit treating you?
January 21, 2026 at 6:07 PM
Which they already did in fantasy! They stopped a massive chaos invasion and then sat down and set up systems to make dealing with the next one less horrible.

So the next one, which was bigger, got stopped too! Things were pretty bad after that too, but again people are in a position to learn!

“You have to win every time, the forces of evil only have to win once”

Yeah but that’s what makes it heroic! People are going to keep fighting and it’s great

“Game recognizes game” is a valid marketing strategy

I loved tracing Felix’s as the books went on.

Always a bit of a toss up if I start him as a student or an agitator
January 19, 2026 at 4:29 AM
You can see his self confidence rise and fall with his warpstone usage, and I think that’s lovely
January 16, 2026 at 1:17 AM
All of that and they still come very close to winning. I love them so much, just a messy dysfunctional horde of rivals
January 15, 2026 at 3:31 PM
I’ve read a bunch of the Gotrek and Felix books and Skavenslayer remains my favourite of all of them
January 13, 2026 at 6:41 PM
Every time there’s a chaos warriors internal monologue it’s the coolest shit ever. “So I learned to kill the best in the land and then went on a mystic quest for hellforged armour and enchanted weapons.”

And it’s like

Hell yeah, get that bag
