In the quest for more representation, some folks mean their own ideal representation. Any form of representation outside of that is seen as not good, even if other say they feel represented by it.
People forget that representation is gonna be diverse because people & their experiences are diverse.

There's my problem: I don't know how to network or socialize IRL, much less on social media.
As for following trends, that depends on if it's a trend I want to do & it's not stale when I do it.

These redraws were going to be a lot simpler. But as I started on the SW one, I kind of "locked in" (as the kids would say). Then I thought it be weird to leave the other lacking.

Some folks forget that designs are an art. Art is free to reinterpretation by other artists.
Artists making redesigns isn't going to hurt people's ability to enjoy the original, in most cases.
